Meet Elkana Simchovitz, an Engineer in Cementcal, who led the Rothenberg Power Plant Project
“Founded in 1990, the Rothenberg Power Plant is one of Israel’s two largest operating power plants.
Our mission was to transform the power plant into an environmentally friendly facility, by implementing an SCR device that reduces carbon dioxide. To do so, we installed piles at a depth of 50 meters below the pipe bridges, along with both concrete elements and anchor bolts.
Our greatest challenge was to perform the work within an active and operating power plant. After addressing the challenge with custom multi-stage logistical preparations, we adapted the engineering equipment to the height and ground limitations and integrated rebar cages into the piles. Our dedicated team worked in shifts around the clock without interrupting the power plants’ daily operations and successfully completed the mission on time.
I’m proud and grateful to be part of such an important project, that aligns with high environmental standards and benefits us all with cleaner breathing air.”
